Nicky King has worked with and trained dogs for over 25 years

She has lived with them as part of the family for her whole life. She currently lives with her husband, four German Shepherd Dogs, one Picardy Shepherd, two giant rabbits and 12 chickens in Dilton Marsh, Wiltshire. She has worked as a school teacher at A level for 24 years, and her hobbies include upholstery and gardens alongside animal care and well being.

As a secondary school teacher for over 20 years with many thousands of hours spent in the classroom with teenagers, Nicky has learned to communicate effectively, encourage, reward, cajole, and can also use these qualities to persuade reluctant canines to behave in the way you wish!  There isn't much she hasn't seen over the years.

Switching to a career in musculoskeletal therapy and rehabilitation for dogs was an easy choice after her beloved German Shepherd, Xia, had an operation to repair her cruciate ligament rupture.  Six week's cage rest was the common post-operative advice, but how wrong this is - you don't get humans to sit in a hospital bed for six weeks after an operation!  Appropriate therapy was undertaken, starting slowly and building Xia back up to full health within a matter of weeks.

Recommended for canine consultations by Harris, Hill & Gibbon Veterinary Practices in Wiltshire whilst also helping to run their Puppy Socialisation classes, Nicky is a qualified canine behaviour consultant, having achieved a Distinction in the British College of Canine Studies' Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour; a Certificate in Canine Anatomy and Physiology, as well as a Certificate in Dog Law, Certificate in Canine First Aid and a Distinction in Dog Grooming. Furthermore, Nicky has experience with the Tellington T-Touch method of therapy and the use of Bach remedies for dogs.  In addition, she has worked closely with Sarah Whitehead at Battersea Cats and Dogs Home, and with Balance Behaviour at Yorkshire Rescue Poundies, and with Puppy School at Cheltenham Rescue Centre. Nicky is a qualified Puppy School tutor and has extensive knowledge of puppy care and puppy training. Canine sports massage is also available, however this is ongoing as training practice only at present.
Nicky specialises in listening carefully to the client, understanding the problems presented, rather than applying a 'one size fits all' response. She uses positive reward and reinforcement techniques as primary canine correction routines and specialises in establishing appropriate boundaries and rules to enhance a harmonious relationship within a family home after careful observation, assessment and diagnosis of behaviour.
Nicky will visit you at your home, or if preferred, you can meet us at the office here in Dilton Marsh. She has a comprehensive range of equipment and techniques at her disposal in order to help you and your situation.  Volunteering for German Shepherd Rescue Elite in her spare time, she is certainly kept very busy by dogs!
